Lucy - our young people's volunteer mentor on why she volunteers with Doncaster Mind
I volunteer at Doncaster Mind as a young people's mentor within the young people's services. I am beyond happy for the opportunity to provide support to young people, as well as being the person they can rely on to validate their emotions and feelings, whilst also providing specific support to help them in periods of low mental health. I am grateful that I am now in a position that enables me to actively support young people to facilitate their own progress throughout the 16-week program.
What I love the most about volunteering with Doncaster Mind is the opportunity given to me to use my own experiences to provide a path of hope for others, which allows me to build genuine relationships, and connect with clients in a way that they may not have experienced before.
I enjoy updating my knowledge, and continuously learning so much, and I’ve been able to do this at a much more advanced and holistic level by meeting and chatting with the most incredible staff, who all share the same devotion to improving the overall well-being, and mental health of anyone who requires the help.
This role is so significant to me, as it allows me to see the progress of clients I have mentored, and further acknowledge the real positive impact that the support systems put in place by Doncaster Mind has on people.
