Group support for refugees & those seeking asylum
Our Settle project responds to the specific emotional and wellbeing needs of non-UK nationals arriving in Doncaster as refugees or those seeking asylum. Whether you have recently arrived in Doncaster or you have been here for a while, we would love to meet you.
We do not see language as a reason to segregate and we understand that in many cultures, the stigma of mental health can be a barrier in receiving the support needed to feel better.
Our group-based activities provide a safe, respectful space in which people create connections and gain access to overall mental health support and wellbeing. We help to reduce barriers and increase social interaction by offering a sense of belonging to our local community, whilst providing tools to understand the symptoms and causes of the mental health issues being presented, rather than focus on diagnoses with no translation.
Through grant funding provided by Doncaster City Council, we are proud and privileged to have worked with the Ukrainian and Afghan communities in Doncaster and we are now able to offer our unique support to anyone who has arrived in Doncaster under refuge or who is going through the application process.
If you or someone you know is feeling unsettled within our communities, due to their status as a refugee or person seeking asylum, please know we can help. Our English-speaking sessions meet every Tuesday at 4.00pm – 6.00pm at our offices in Doncaster.
Our group offers activities and interesting discussion subjects through which you can learn, practice and improve your spoken English in a safe, supportive environment whilst building connections and making new friends.
Practicing English in this group will also boost your ESOL learning and give you the confidence to speak English every day!
Through our network, we also provide a central point in Doncaster for information about other activities, events and support that may be of help or interest to you.
Our Settle staff Katia and Safia will be pleased to help if you would like to join our group or have any questions. Please contact them by email:
