Finding your voice and telling a story

Our Storytelling Group ran for 6 weekly sessions. The aim was to help participants to build confidence, reduce anxiety and develop empathy and develop skills in communication.

Activities included reading a piece of writing and developing a world of their own – either from memories or imaginary, writing a poem or short story, learning how to journal and creating a group story.

At the end of the group, participants said that they felt better for having attended, that they’d learned about other people’s writing styles and it had improved their confidence.

One participant said that his main take away from the group was being able to put more of himself into his writing. Another stated that she now thought that it showed how much anyone can write, saying that she had been on a very long journey that meant she could now read aloud in a group and her confidence and self-belief had grown.

Some ongoing goals from this session are to write their own stories and to submit work for our very own Exhibition in August.

Group facilitator, Ali, said, “It’s been such a privilege to work with this group and see their confidence grow on this journey we’ve been on.”
