Why are we moving?
During last year we carried out a review by speaking to the people who use our services to ask them how we could improve the way that we work and what they would like to see us provide. One of the main outcomes was that the building in which we work in (Netherhall Road) does not fit in with our values and does not help us to provide the warm, relaxing and inviting atmosphere that people need to aid their recovery.
Another reason for moving premises is to strengthen Doncaster Mind’s stability and to reduce our overheads so we have more money to spend on providing new services and supporting the people of Doncaster and the surrounding area.
Where are we moving to?
We will be moving to premises shared with Changing Lives. We were keen to keep the location of the premises central to town as we are aware this is important to the people who use our services as it remains readily accessible. The new building is approximately 6 minute walk from our current premises (see below), the address is as follows:
Oracle House (Changing Lives) 2 – 5 Princes Street Doncaster DN1 3NJ
These premises are opposite Iceland and next door to Mos Properties.
Who is Changing Lives?
Changing Lives is a third sector voluntary organisation like ourselves. Changing Lives used to be known as Women’s Centre and Platform 51. Changing Lives support individuals and families in Doncaster to achieve their potential and change their lives for the better. http://www.changing-lives.org.uk/doncastermove/
Will the services be temporarily closed during the move?
As the building is already set up and in use by Changing Lives there will be no need to stop providing our services the week we move. We will finish providing services at Netherhall Road on Saturday 2 September and start providing services at our new premises on Monday 4 September. We have been working hard with Changing Lives to ensure that the transition from our old premises to new premises is smooth for everyone who use and support our services.
What has happened so far?
As part of our planned move we have already starting providing our Thursday social Evening (previously a Wednesday evening) at the new premises. The evening is held between 5 – 8pm and everyone is welcome.
We have also started providing some counselling sessions on a Thursday at these premises. We have received lots of positive comments regarding the move and we are looking forward to moving more of our services over in due course.
How do I keep up with new information about the move?
We are aware that this move can be very unsettling for some of the people who use our services. In order to keep everyone up to date with what is happening and to ensure that the move is as smooth as possible we have a board in the main room with news about the move, and pictures of the new rooms which we will be using. We also have a questions and answers box where you can ask questions (anomalously if you wish), raise hopes or concerns or tell us what you would like to see. We will then answer these questions during the open meeting and these questions will be placed on display with the answer.
We will also be updating our Facebook and website with more information as we progress through the move. However if you would like to speak to a member of staff you can telephone us on 01302 812190 or email email@example.com
We are also offering people the opportunity to see the premises and take a look around with a member of staff or volunteer. If you are interested in this please contact us on the numbers above.
